Suzanne Whitby is a well-known communication specialist, futures thinker and sustainability catalyst. She is particularly recognised for her work in the field of futures stories, and her advocacy for the use of multi-sensory, storied experiences to raise awareness of and solve real-world problems. She has developed immersive stories of possible futures and projects that aim to harness the positive aspects of imagining, exploring and sharing stories, such as collaboration, creativity and problem-solving to address challenges in areas like climate change, sustainable business models and sustainable cities.

As a futures thinker, Suzanne designs and facilitates participatory futures workshops at make SHIFT happen, a foresight and futures collective.

As a communication specialist, she works  with changemakers and researchers, both of whom she classifies as “future shapers”, to help them communicate clearly and authentically, to engage and encourage action. Finally, as a sustainability catalyst, she delivers workshops and designs learning experiences topics as varied as climate change, the circular economy, and communicating for behaviour change.

Her emergent research into “senstoryscapes” is set to prompt discussions about the impact of multi-sensory stories on society and the potential for leveraging immersive storytelling to tackle some of the wicked problems facing society and the environment today.
